Hiking Mummy Mountain
February 15, 2023
Coyote Lake Harvey Bear Ranch County Park is located a little further South from where I live, which is the reason why I do not visit it regularly. This past weekend, however, the weather forecast looked good (clouds!) and I felt like going on a hike at a place different from my usual spots. So I grabbed my camera backpack and made the trip South to check out an area in this park I have not explored before: Mummy Mountain. And I was not disappointed. There are plenty of wonderful trees, not many other fellow hikers and the skies were anything but blue. I even had to "endure" two brief rain showers.
The first tree that caught my eye was an oak tree located right at the Rancho La Polka trailhead. It is full of character and stands all by itself.
Some time later, I noticed a pair of trees with one tree being oddly shaped. I moved around to find the best angle and then noticed that there was a swing hanging in the left tree. Somebody must have put it there, right in the middle of the wilderness. Brilliant!
One other tree that caught my attention has a majestic trifold canopy. And again, I noticed that something was hanging from it. This time it is a bird house.
Next is another tree with an oddly shaped limb I came across. For some reason, it reminded me of an old turntable tonearm.
The last image I made near the end of my hike is from the same tree shown in the first image. It looks entirely different thanks to the different angle and light. I cannot make up my mind which version I like better and therefore decided to keep both.
